Manila, Philippines - October 17, 2024 - The Future Frontiers AI Ideathon, held on October 12, 2024, at KMC, The Podium West Tower, ignited innovation as six teams presented groundbreaking AI-powered solutions to real-world challenges. Co-presented by DashoContent and Web3PH (Openverse) and co-organized by Young Founders Summit (YFS), GEN AI Philippines, Third Team Media, and DashoWork, the event brought together over 18 students, developers, and professionals. Selected from a pool of 40 applications across 15 schools in the Philippines, the participants showcased the nation's increasing interest in AI innovation.

Event Highlights

Attracting a diverse group from various educational institutions and organizations nationwide, the event commenced with inspiring remarks from Bea Llana of Web3PH. Key organizers—including event chairman and host David Alfonso Castro; Oliver Santos from YFS; Fleire Castro of DashoContent; and Armielyn Obinguar of GEN AI Philippines—shared their visions for AI's future.

During mentoring sessions and flash talks, David Alfonso Castro demonstrated how AI can accelerate idea development, while Fleire Castro emphasized understanding tech users beyond the technology itself. Armielyn Obinguar discussed AI safety in demystifying large language models.

Shad Roi de la Cruz, Product Manager at Symph—the event's main sponsor—delivered insights on AI-powered app development. These talks provided participants with practical guidance applied directly to their projects.

"The potential we saw today wasn't theoretical," said David Alfonso Castro. "You're either part of the solution or part of the noise, and these teams were all about solutions."

The judging panel—comprising Dominic Ligot of Cirrolytix, Shad de la Cruz of Symph, and Fleire Castro of DashoContent—evaluated the projects based on innovation, feasibility, and impact. Teams pitched their AI solutions in a dynamic and competitive environment.

Impact

  • First Place: Team HacktivatorsAndrea Faith Alimorong, Rhenz Nathaniel Fernandez, and Joshua Jarabejo—won with AlgoQuest, an augmented reality game designed to teach AI concepts through interactive learning.

  • Second Place: Team Alagad ni ArjohnAdrian Azures, Adrian Paul Sande, and Vinceric Baron Ocasiones—secured second place with Elara, an AI mental health companion providing accessible support.

  • Third Place: Team AI CarambaJand Patrick Antonio, Kevin Zander Lim, and Ashley Mikaela Melendres—took third with their AI-powered agricultural drone solution improving farming efficiency.

Community partners—including Tech Opportunities Philippines, ASES Manila, UX Society, DLSU UNBOXD, Ateneo's AECES, PUP Microsoft Student Community, and PUP The Programmers Guild—contributed by promoting AI literacy and supporting young innovators.

Results and Future Plans

With six teams showcasing innovative projects, the AI Ideathon achieved its goal of advancing AI literacy and encouraging creative solutions. The organizers were encouraged by the high level of interest, having received over 40 applications from students across 15 schools. Building on this success, DashoContent and its co-organizers plan to host future community events to empower young Filipinos with essential AI knowledge and skills.
