Manila, Philippines - December 19, 2025 - From the Philippines to the World: A Grassroots Cultural Exchange Project
"Dreaming Losers" is a grassroots cultural exchange project launched from scratch by Takuhei Kaneko, an actor living in the Philippines, and Genki Itani, an entrepreneur. The two met by chance as teammates on a local soccer team after moving to the Philippines around the same time. Driven by a desire to "give back" to the country that supported them in a foreign land, they embarked on this film production.
What began with just two people has evolved into a cross-border collaboration, attracting top talent like director/screenwriter Bunta Kawamoto, producer Kosuke Tomaru (100company), and veteran Philippine film industry professional Martin Mayuga. Overcoming numerous challenges, the team has successfully completed principal photography.
"This project is more than just a movie; it is a cultural bridge between Japan and the Philippines," says Itani. "Our goal is to deepen mutual understanding and trust, creating a world where both nations truly feel like best partners."
Key Features of "Dreaming Losers": A Global Collaboration
The film explores the themes of "gratitude" and "rebirth," depicting a human drama where those who have lost their dreams find light once again. Filmed entirely in the Philippines, it stands as a truly international project featuring a collaborative cast and crew from both nations.
1. International Cast and Crew
The film stars Takuhei Kaneko, alongside Japanese talents Matsumoto Club, Hebereke Saito, and Ryoya Iihara (DAW90000). The Philippine contingent features renowned actors such as Ramon Christopher "RK" Bagatsing and Gillian Vicencio.
2. Celebrating 70 Years of Japan-Philippines Diplomacy
In anticipation of the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations in 2026, the project honors 69 years of friendship and aims to foster even stronger ties for the future.
3. Commitment to Social Impact
The project collaborates with Mori Notes, a Philippine social enterprise. By providing flexible income opportunities for female artisans and single mothers, the project incorporates "Banig" (traditional Filipino weaving) into modern product designs.
4. Global Film Festival Strategy
Following completion, the film is slated for submission to prestigious domestic and international film festivals to showcase the beauty and charm of the Philippines to a global audience.
The Road to Completion
The film is currently in the editing and music production phase, targeting a 2026 release. The theme song will be performed by SkyGarden, a "Japinoy" rock band consisting of Japanese and Filipino members.
Post-completion plans include screenings in both the Philippines and Japan, as well as exchange events featuring stage appearances by the Philippine cast in Japan.
"We hope this film lights a small spark of hope in your heart," Itani shares. "It is our prayer for the shared future of Japan and the Philippines."
