To aim a fair society where everyone can draw dreams and be absorbed, DEAR ME open Fashion school “coxco Lab” in Manila

Non Profit Organization DEAR ME that aim to solve social issues through Fashion and Education open a fashion school, “coxco Lab” in Manila on February 05th 2023.

coxco Lab will provide complementary educational opportunity to 10 youth who lives in Metro Manila to acquire design and sewing skills as technical vocational education and training center accredited in TESDA.

After graduation, we aim to create not only education but also employement at group brand “coxco” and other cooperating companies.

【The background of coxco lab】
The president , Ayumi Nishigawa established DEAR ME in 2015 for social contribution through Fashion. Our main activity is to organize fashion shows to deepen self-understanding and experience the joy to co-create something with others and it has been 8times already. Our next challenge is to open the school, “coxco Lab” to aim a fair society where everyone can draw dreams and be absorbed. In “coxco Lab”,we create the employment for graduated at cooperating companies and circulation social contribution and business. Hence we aim to solve poverty issues in a sustainable manner through education and job creation.  

●What we do


【About fashion school “coxco Lab”】
“coxco Lab” is fashion school that will be opened by Non Profit Organization DEAR ME in 2023 Feburuary. We will open the fashion craft course to learn manufacturing fashion accessories for first year. Later on, we plan to expand fashion courses that learn how to design and make garment and total beauty course.
In the first year, the program will accept 10 male and female students aged 16 above free of charge, and will be taught by teachers from De La Salle University College of Saint Benilde and who owns fashion brand in a hybrid online and offline format.
In addition to technology education, we also offer comprehensive education such as SDGs educational programs, financial education, and reproductive health education, which will help students and communities to acquire the ability to see things from multiple perspectives.

“coxco Lab” will operate through sales from "coxco," support from sponsor companies, and crowdfunding to sell products created by students. The partner company "coxco" will support the operation of the fashion school "coxco Lab" by allocating a portion of the profit with the aim of creating employment opportunities for students after graduation.

【Current situation in Philippines】
Despite the remarkable economic development, there are still many "slum" areas, and the disparity problem is serious. According to statistics, about 23.7% of the population of about 111 million people live in poverty. Due to the new coronavirus infection, lockdowns and curfews have been in place for several months since March 2020, and the Philippines' unemployment rate was 17.7% in April 2020 and 5.7% in April 2022, which is gradually recovering but is still high. For around this two years during the spread of the new coronavirus, there was no monetary support from the government, only food aid in the form of rice and canned food which is not enough to satisfy their hunger. In response to this situation, “coxco Lab” believes that education and employment are important to break the cycle of poverty and we have decided to open this school.
