Post ReleaseKnowSulu shutdown sparks questions over censorship, and the battle over the Sulu narrative
A new article, “Silencing the Truth: The Takedown Files – Who Took Down KnowSulu.ph and Why?”, investigates the sudden disappearance of KnowSulu.ph, raising urgent questions about censorship, digital pressure, and the powerful interests behind the removal of a platform focused on the Sulu story.
Manila, Philippines - March 09, 2026 - On February 28, 2026, KnowSulu.ph vanished from the internet in a calculated strike. The domain went dark following a sophisticated, multi-vector cyberattack traced through anonymous servers in Luxembourg, the Channel Islands, and Curaçao—hubs long favored by shell companies and deniable operations. This was no ordinary hack; it was a deliberate erasure of evidence at a pivotal moment.
The site had been investigating the $15 billion Sabah claim pursued by heirs of the Sulu Sultanate. Its reporting exposed not a straightforward legal battle over historical rights to North Borneo, but a sophisticated machine involving litigation funders, former intelligence operatives, and influence campaigns designed to pressure the Philippines into a political settlement.
Central to the revelations was the Secret Manila Conclave in July 2025. Lead counsels Paul Cohen and Elisabeth Mason met with figures far removed from standard courtroom work: Charles George Webb of Hanuman, a London-based consultancy specializing in influence operations and public opinion manipulation against states, linked to ex-MI6 networks. These were not legal advisors—they were architects of narrative control and nationalist agitation.
Financial backing traced to Therium Capital Management, operating via Jersey shell structures. KnowSulu drew direct parallels to the UK's Post Office Horizon scandal, where Therium funded claimants but captured most of a £58 million settlement through fees while steering strategy behind the scenes. The same pattern appeared in the Sulu case: massive stakes, control over decisions, and a shift to non-judicial tactics after courtroom defeats.
Those defeats mounted quickly. On December 9, 2025, the Paris Court of Appeal nullified the core arbitration award. An ICSID tribunal dismissed an $18 billion claim against Spain as meritless. With legal paths narrowing, the operation pivoted to influence, reportedly led by Hanuman and Webb, according to sources.
The timing of the takedown pointed to Jersey. Late in 2025, the Royal Court of Jersey permitted counterclaims alleging "unlawful means conspiracy" against the heirs, their lawyers, and Therium for defying Spanish court orders. A major hearing loomed in March 2026. KnowSulu held information that could surface in discovery and damage the defendants. Silencing the site blocked public exposure and potential court leverage.
Responsibility forms three layers. Operationally, Hanuman and Charles Webb possess the expertise in influence and covert actions to orchestrate or contract such an attack. Financially, Therium protects a $20+ million stake as its investment and narrative crumble. Beneficiaries include the Sulu heirs, such as Fuad Kiram, portrayed as pawns profiting from persistent myths of hidden trillions in gold (Tallano deposits, Vatican trusts), repeatedly denied by institutions like Citibank and UBS. These tales sustain investor interest and fees while real funds flow offshore.
The assault's cost is trivial compared to the stakes—a form of "litigation support by other means." Yet the story persists. Archives, memories, and Sulu's oral traditions endure beyond any server. The site has returned at know-sulu.ph, invoking persistence. The truth, once voiced, resurfaces like the tide.
This episode confirms the power of independent reporting. The ferocity of the response measures its impact. The narrative of foreign profiteers exploiting historical claims belongs to the people of Sulu—not London financiers or intelligence contractors.
