Post ReleaseNPGH offers confidential guidance, triage, counseling, referrals, and long-term support nationwide.
The National Problem Gambling Helpline (NPGH) is expanding access to confidential, round-the-clock support for people facing gambling-related concerns, providing guidance, triage, counseling, referrals, and evidence-based interventions while extending assistance to families and loved ones as needed.
Manila - August 28, 2026 - MANILA, Philippines — The National Problem Gambling Helpline (NPGH) is providing a dedicated national resource for individuals and families affected by gambling-related concerns, reinforcing the importance of early intervention, professional guidance, and sustained support in addressing gambling-related harm.
Launched in May 2026 through a partnership between the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and Seagulls Flock Organization Inc. (SFO), the NPGH operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service connects callers with trained para-counselors and mental health professionals who can provide confidential assistance, counseling support, information, and appropriate referrals.
The helpline is designed to serve as an accessible first point of contact. Its approach goes beyond simply identifying problematic gambling behavior. Through guidance and triage, callers can receive help in understanding their circumstances and determining the appropriate level of support, including referrals for further counseling, treatment, rehabilitation, or other professional services when necessary.
A key component of the NPGH model is its use of evidence-based interventions. Para-counselors underwent training that included motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, clinical skills, and technical preparation for handling calls. This training supports a structured and informed response to individuals who may be experiencing gambling-related difficulties.
The service also recognizes that gambling-related harm can extend beyond the individual. Financial difficulties, emotional distress, relationship conflicts, secrecy, and increased stress can affect families, partners, and friends. NPGH therefore encourages affected loved ones to seek guidance themselves, providing support on how to approach conversations, establish healthy boundaries, encourage professional assistance, and manage the impact on their own well-being.
Confidentiality remains central to the service. NPGH states that individuals may reach out anonymously, while personal information is not required to access support. The service is also free, although standard telecommunications, text, or data charges may apply depending on the provider.
Individuals seeking assistance may contact the National Problem Gambling Helpline at (02) 8248-9568. The service is intended for gambling-related concerns and is not an emergency crisis hotline. Those facing immediate danger or a mental health emergency are advised to contact emergency services or the National Center for Mental Health Crisis Hotline.
The establishment of the NPGH represents a broader shift toward a more comprehensive approach to responsible gaming—one that combines prevention and awareness with accessible intervention, professional support, referral pathways, and long-term recovery resources. For individuals experiencing gambling-related harm and for the people who care about them, the availability of confidential assistance provides an important pathway toward informed decisions, professional help, and recovery.
