Chinabank Chairman Hans T. Sy was honored by the Institute of Corporate Directors as an Honorary Fellow for excellence in governance, sustainability, and community impact.

Chinabank Chairman Hans T. Sy was conferred by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) its highest recognition of Honorary Fellow for his significant contributions to corporate governance, sustainability, and community development.
ICD emphasized that he guided Chinabank and SM Prime—as Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Executive Committee, respectively—to recognition as among the best-governed publicly listed companies in the Philippines. Both firms have been awarded Five-Golden Arrows, the highest recognition in the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) Golden Arrow Awards, with Chinabank winning the distinction for three years in a row. ICD also noted that through his role as Chairman of National University, he demonstrated his support for sustainable practices and education.
“As public companies, our responsibilities extend beyond profit. We owe it to our stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership,” Chairman Sy said in his acceptance speech.
Championing good governance, he leads Chinabank’s beyond compliance approach to corporate governance and sets the tone at the top for the bank’s commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Under his leadership, the bank was distinguished by The Asset for its excellence in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and was named by TIME as among the World’s Best Companies of 2024 in terms of employee satisfaction, revenue growth, and ESG performance.
Chairman Sy was inducted and recognized as ICD Honorary Fellow on November 18, 2024 at the Manila Golf Country Club in Makati City.
The domestic rating board of the ACGS, the ICD is recognized as a national and international resource for corporate governance. The Honorary Fellow title is awarded to distinguished leaders who have excelled professionally, contributed significantly to their industry and the country, upheld the highest standards of ethical behavior and pushed the governance reform agenda..
