Burgers account for 25.3% of late-night foodpanda orders nationwide.

When hunger strikes after 11 PM, Filipinos aren’t reaching for a full meal, they’re reaching for a burger.

New nationwide order data from online food delivery platform foodpanda between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM (January to June 2026) reveals that burgers accounted for 25.3% of all midnight deliveries. That means roughly one in every four late-night orders is a burger.

The popularity of burgers after midnight may not be a coincidence. A University of Chicago study found that sleep restriction shows that as fatigue sets in, the brain actively seeks out substantial, energy-rich foods that offer immediate satisfaction. A warm, protein-packed burger provides the quick comfort and sensory reward that late-night workers naturally gravitate toward after a long shift.

Why the Burger Wins After Dark

The trend also reflects the unique rhythms of the Philippine workforce.

According to the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), the IT-BPM industry ended 2025 with $40 billion in revenue and a massive 1.9 million-strong workforce. With roughly 60% of those employees working night shifts to service Western time zones, over a million Filipinos are awake, working, and hungry during the exact hours of the foodpanda data.

Midnight Cravings, Nationwide

This behavior isn’t just a Metro Manila quirk. The 25.3% pattern shows up consistently across the country’s major delivery markets, from dense urban centers to provincial cities, suggesting this preference is shared across the country.

A New Picture of Filipino Midnight Eating

The findings suggest that midnight dining has become a distinct eating occasion, with customers opting for satisfying meals rather than light snacks.

“Late-night ordering has become an increasingly important dining occasion for many Filipinos,” said Patricia Jacinto, Growth and Marketing Director of foodpanda Philippines. “While we offer thousands of food choices on the app, burgers continue to stand out as the top pick after 11 PM. The consistency of this trend across the country shows how customers value meals that are familiar, satisfying, and convenient, whether they’re working late, studying, or simply winding down for the day.”

As dining habits continue to extend beyond traditional meal times, food delivery remains a convenient way for Filipinos to enjoy their favorite comfort food whenever cravings strike.
